köken: From Proto-Turkic *adak (“leg”); however, not a regular Kypchak development thereof (which is аяҡ (ayaq)), but apparently a (now extinct) collateral branch with a peculiar semantic shift. Alternatively, from a Mongolic source, from Proto-Mongolic *adag (“end”). Compare to Uyghur ئاداق (adaq, “end”), Uzbek oyoq (“end, edge”), Kazakh адақ (adaq, “end”).
