From the same Proto-Uralic root *śoxi (“mouth”) or *śuwe (“mouth”) as Finnish suu and Estonian suu. Rebracketing of the possessive form szája into száj + a instead of earlier szá + ja, while it usually retains the original, shorter stem in 1st- and 2nd-person possessive forms (see the tables below).
