Etimoloji
Of uncertain morphology. Derived from the verb *alaşmak, which has no written example and no meaning, by adding the suffix -ım.. The verb is derived from ala (“colourful”) with -ş (“reciprocal suffix”). The purposes of these suffixes are unclear here. Probably a phono-semantic matching of French alliage. Coined by Turkish Language Association in 1937 to replace the Arabic-derived halita.
