Etimoloji

From Middle Dutch geschiedenisse, extended form of geschienisse, derived from geschien (“to happen”). By surface analysis, geschieden + -nis. The form with -de- follows the development of the underlying verb. Cognate with German Geschehnis, also related with Geschichte.
