Cognate with Karakalpak tańlaw, Kyrgyz таңдоо (taŋdoo) and Uzbek tanglamoq. The origin is unclear: * Possibly derived from тану (tanu, “to get to know”), through this change: tanï-la > tanla > taŋla. * Or from Proto-Turkic [Term?], compare possible cognates: Uyghur [script needed] (talla-), Yakut тал (tal), Old Turkic [script needed] (talula-), all meaning "to choose".
