Cognate with Dutch and Middle Dutch plomp (13th c.), whence also English plump. Alemannic German has shifted forms in Alsatian pflumpfig, Swiss pflumpfet, but these were probably formed analogically as the word moved up the Rhine (and thus do not prove West Germanic inheritance).
