fur, pelt · the 皮 radical (portion of a kanji character)
köken: Compound of 毛 (ke, “fur, body hair”) + 皮 (kawa, “skin, pelt”). The kawa changes to gawa as an instance of rendaku (連濁). Etimoloji

From Middle Welsh blew; cognate with Breton blev and Cornish blew. Of uncertain ultimate origin and lacking Celtic cognates outside of Brythonic. Perhaps related to Ancient Greek φλόος (phlóos, “rind, bark”). Or, related to Lithuanian plùskos (“hair”) and Proto-West Germanic *fleus (“fleece”), from Proto-Indo-European *plews- (“to pull out, pluck”).
