Ultimately a derivation from Proto-Turkic *dï̄n (“spirit, breath; rest”). Cognate with Tatar тынчу (tınçu), Kazakh тыншу (tynşu, “stuffy, poorly ventilated”); compare also Kumyk тунчукъ (tunçuq, “stuffy, poorly ventilated”).
