firm, rough, coarse (most often of speech or behaviour) · substantial, hearty, rustic · solid, presentable
çekim: karşılaştırma deftiger · üstünlük am deftigsten
köken: Via German Low German from Dutch deftig, itself seemingly from West Frisian. The original sense of the Dutch word is not quite clear but would have run on the lines of “suitable, solid, weighty”. The further semantic development has been such that the word now, arguably, has opposite senses in German (“coarse, rustic”) and Dutch (“refined, genteel”).
powerful (having or capable of exerting power potency or influence) · heavy
çekim: karşılaştırma machtiger · üstünlük machtigst
köken: From Middle Dutch magtech, from Old Dutch maghtig, from Proto-West Germanic *mahtīg, from Proto-Germanic *mahtīgaz. By surface analysis, macht + -ig. Compare German Low German machtig, German mächtig, West Frisian machtich, English mighty.
