köken: 17th century, exact etymology is uncertain. Perhaps from Baum (“tree”) + -eln (frequentative) as in “dangle from a tree”, but more likely an East Central German byform of bammeln, bummeln (both originally “to dangle”).

A double diminutive from ōs (“mouth; face”), analyzable as ōs + -culum + -lum or as ōsculum (“little mouth”) (mostly attested in the derived sense 'kiss') + -lum.
