köken: Etymology unclear. Possibly a word from a language in Sicily (cf. Hesychius' mention of ἀβολεῖς: περιβολαὶ ὑπὸ Σικελῶν 'a garment amongst the Sicilians' and the Sicilian town of Ἀβόλλα mentioned by Stephanus of Byzantium).
köken: From Middle Irish gúna (“gown; outer tunic or dress”), borrowed from Anglo-Norman gune, goune (“fur-trimmed coat, pelisse”), from Old French goune, from Late Latin gunna (“leather garment, a fur”). Cognate with Manx gooyn, English gown.
köken: From Proto-Albanian *pait- (“gown, cloak”), a derivation with the suffix -kë. Cognate with Gothic 𐍀𐌰𐌹𐌳𐌰 (paida, “tunic, shirt”) and Ancient Greek βαίτη (baítē). A loanword from Gothic is also phonetically possible. Orel considers it a derivation from petë, reconstructing Proto-Albanian *patika.
köken: Plural of robba, from Vulgar Latin rauba, of Germanic origin, likely via Gothic or Frankish *raub, all from Proto-Germanic *raubaz. Cognate with Catalan roba, Italian roba, English robe.
