Etimoloji

Inherited from Old Bengali তই (taï), তঞি (tañi /taĩ/), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀢𑀏 (tae), 𑀢𑀏𑀁 (taeṃ), from Sanskrit ত্বযা (tváyā). In late Old Bengali, the instrumental তই (taï) replaced the nominative তু (tu). After the plural তুহ্মি (tumhi) (later তুমি (tumi)) became an honorific singular in Middle Bengali, it displaced তই (toi) (later তুই (tui)) to more informal and inferior usage.
