Etimoloji

From Proto-Brythonic *gwölɨɣ, ultimately a combination of Proto-Indo-European *upo + *legʰ- (“to lie (down)”), but the intermediate pathway is disputed. * GPC goes with Proto-Celtic *uɸo-legyom. * Schrijver thinks this word is a paradigmatic split-off from the oblique stem of *uɸolexs, with gwâl (“lair”) coming from the nominative singular. Cognate with Breton gwele, Cornish gweli.
