Etimoloji
From Middle High German elle, from Old High German elina, from Proto-West Germanic *alinu. The form elle is most readily explained as an assimilation of syncopated elne (like müller from earlier mülnære). Alternatively it can also be a backformation from apocopated eln, elen. Cognate with English ell, which compare.
