tropics (region of the Earth lying between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn) · tropic (either of the two parallels of latitude 23°27′ north and south of the equator)
çekim: çoğul trópusok
köken: Borrowed from Latin tropus (“figure of speech, trope”), from Ancient Greek τρόπος (trópos, “turn; figure of speech; musical mode”). The “tropics” sense (etymology 1 sense 1) is possibly a semantic loan from German Tropen (“tropics”). The phonetic form was probably influenced by trópus (“trope”), which was borrowed independently from the same Latin term. First attested in 1833.
