Learnedly, from Koine Greek ἐμβατήριον (embatḗrion) -with noun μέλος (mélos)-, neuter adjective of ἐμβατήριος (embatḗrios, “suitable for marching, suitable for parade”), with stem ἐμβα- of the ancient verb ἐμβαίνω (embaínō) + -τήριον (-tḗrion). From (ἐν-) ἐμ- ((en-) em-, “in”) + βαίνω (baínō, “to move on foot, to step”) (modern εμβαίνω (emvaíno).
