From Malay pasu (“vase; pot”), from Portuguese vaso (“vase; container”), from Old Galician-Portuguese vaso, from Latin vāsum (“vessel; vase”). Doublet of vas. * The sense of rice measure is a semantic loan from Lawangan [Term?], most likely as loanword from Malay pasu above.
