Etimoloji

First attested as ну́мер (númer), which is now dated, from German Nummer. The form но́мер (nómer) may have been influenced by the French nombre, or this variation simply reflected a perception of the short u in German as closer to the Russian о. Compare the case of the doublets нуль (nulʹ) and ноль (nolʹ), and the corresponding German Null.
