hand in hand, shoulder-to-shoulder (in close cooperation; also literally)
köken: käsi (“hand”) + kädessä (“in hand”)
kulkea käsi kädessä
Etimoloji
From Old East Slavic въ мѣстѣ (vŭ městě), made of Old East Slavic въ (vŭ, “in”) and Old East Slavic мѣсто (město, “a place”); ultimately from Proto-Slavic *vъměstě (“along with”). Alternatively, from Old East Slavic въ мѣстѣхъ (vŭ městěxŭ). Analyzable as a univerbation of в (v) + ме́сте (méste), prepositional singular of ме́сто (mésto).
