Etimoloji
Attested since the 1890s. A shortening of Abiturium n, itself short for Latin exāmen abiturium—in formal German of the 19th century rather found as Abiturientenexamen—, from abituriō (“to wish to leave”), desiderative construction of abeō (“to leave, go off”). For more, see also Abiturient. Compare Physikum.
