Etimoloji
bể (“sea”) + dâu (“mulberry”), calque of tang thương (桑蒼), syllable metathesis of the unused thương tang (滄桑), which in turn is the shortened form of the Chinese saying 滄海桑田 /沧海桑田 (thương hải tang điền, “the blue sea and the mulberry fields”). From a Chinese myth in which a goddess said she'd seen the sea turned into mulberry fields multiple times.
