Compound of ชัก (chák, “to draw (in); to allude (to)”) + แม่น้ำ (mɛ̂ɛ-náam, “river”) + ทั้ง (táng, “all”) + ห้า (hâa, “five”), literally “to allude to all the five rivers”.
