acai palm (Euterpe oleracea) · acai berry · the puree made with this berry
çekim: çoğul açaís
eş: açaizeiro
köken: Borrowed from an uncertain Tupi-Guarani language in Northern Brazil, ultimately from Proto-Tupi-Guarani *wat͡saʔi. The first mention in 1833 makes it unlikely to be from Nheengatu and no such word has been attested in Old Tupi or Língua Geral Amazônica, despite sources unanimously pointing to this origin. Compare Araweté axaʼɨ, Guajajára waxa'i, Nheengatu wasaí and Urubú-Kaapor wasai.
