Etimoloji
Borrowed from Old Tupi kûatimundé. By surface analysis, quati + mundéu. Coati bands are composed of only females and young males – when these age, they are driven away from the group and become solitary. Old, lonely and usually fatter, males are easily caught in traps, hence the name.
