Compound of Bank (“bank”) + Harimau (“tiger”). Literally, “Tiger Bank”. Taken directly from Maybank's corporate logo, which has featured a yellow tiger head (the Malayan Tiger) since the bank's inception in 1960. The tiger is a national symbol of Malaysia, representing strength and leadership.
