Etimoloji
Compound of 韋駄天(いだてん) (Idaten, “Skanda (Buddhism)”) + 走(はし)り (hashiri, “running”, 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 走(はし)る (hashiru, “to run”)), from a story of Skanda running very fast to catch demons who had stolen holy relics. The hashiri changes to bashiri as an instance of rendaku (連濁). First attested in 1719.
