Etimoloji

Originally a compound of 木(こ) (ko-, the 被(ひ)覆(ふく)形(けい) (hifukukei, “bound form”) of 木(き) (ki, “tree”)) + 末(すえ) (sue, “tip, end”). The sue changes to zue as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
