Etimoloji
From toivo (“hope”) + -nen, mostly during the adoption (in Western Finland) and Fennicization of surnames in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In some cases, it has been inspired by place names containing toivo (for this, see Toivola). The oldest Eastern Finnish records of this name can be compared to Toiva, Toivanen.
