Etimoloji
raippa (“crop (whip) or (dialectal) pull rope on a seine”) + luoto (“islet, rock”). The name may refer to fishing, or to the shape of the islet. Originally the name of an islet, likely given by Finnish speakers and borrowed into local Swedish. The Finnish name was then revived in the 19th century from the Swedish name Replot (after the region had become entirely Swedish-speaking).
