Etimoloji
Possibly särki (“roach (fish)”) + salo (“(large, wooded) island”), but the Finnish name is first attested only in the 1930s, and the reason behind the name is unknown. The initial component may instead be based on a misreading of Sæckesaleboll (1464), which likely derives from an earlier Finnish form *Säkki(ä)salo.
