Etimoloji
jyväs- (“corn of grain”) + kylä (“village”), through the name of a nearby body of water (the river Jyväsjoki or the lake Jyväsjärvi), as a reference to the fertility of the land. First attested as Jyueskylä in 1575; the name of the river is attested the earliest (iywesioki, 1506).
