Etimoloji
Borrowed from Malay sambal, from Javanese ꦱꦩ꧀ꦧꦼꦭ꧀ (sambel). In Surinamese Dutch, it may have been directly borrowed from Javanese, although the meaning is rather distinct from the Javanese word, probably an ellipsis of Javanese ꦱꦩ꧀ꦧꦼꦭ꧀ꦲꦠꦶ (sambel ati).
