Etimoloji
First attested as Heilig-Landstichting in 1911. Compound of Heilig Land (“Holy Land”) and stichting (“foundation”). Originally the name of a Catholic foundation meant to familiarise lay members with the Bible and life in Palestine. The village formed around the Open-Air Bible Museum built by the organisation in 1913.
