Etimoloji
From Middle Dutch Bergen op den Sôom. First attested as in villa qui dicitur bergon in 966. Derived from the dative plural form of Old Dutch berga (“hill, elevated place”). The identifying element zoom (“seam, edge”) was added later, possibly to distinguish the city from nearby Steenbergen.
