Most likely a compound corresponding to زمی (zamī /zami, “earth”) + آروغ (ārōġ /âruġ, “belch; burp”). Persian sometimes conflates initial /s-/ and /z-/. The Transoxanian variant is contaminated by زنبور (zanbōr /zanbur, “wasp, bee”).
