Uncertain. The first attestation is in the second volume of HHB (1769) as a Grabar gloss to Ashkharhabar խատիֆէ (xatifē). Appears in some works written in Old Armenian in the 19th century (see the quotations), where authors felt the need to clarify its meaning with the more familiar խատիֆէ (xatifē) or a foreign equivalent; this points to թաւրինջ (tʻawrinǰ) being an incomprehensible, literary…
