Originally also written as 息婦 (MC sik bjuwX, literally “son's wife”), composed of 息 (xī, “son”) + 婦／妇 (fù, “wife”); possibly a reanalysis of the similar-sounding 新婦 (MC sin bjuwX, “son's wife”) (Shi, 2008).
