bio- + Deutscher. Originally humorous, coined by the cartoonist Muhsin Omurca in a 1996 cartoon in the taz. Gained traction in a somewhat ironic manner in left-wing circles; later recuperated in a more serious manner by the Neue Rechte in the 2010s, to imply a supposed common genetic origin for the German nation.
